I've been mostly re-reading books lately, so they aren't going on my list for 50 book challenge. Just these 2 for now....

1. The queen's gambit - Walter tevis
2. C'est la vie - suzy gershman

07 January 2009 @ 06:25 pm
32. Indignation - Philip Roth
33. The Push Man and other stories - Yoshihiro Tatsumi [gn]

That's the end of 2008 there. I'll reset my count for 2009 in the next entry.

25 December 2008 @ 11:54 pm
27. Piercing - Ryu Murakami
28. Indignation - Philip Roth
29. The Lord of the Flies
30. Be Wtih You - Takuji Ichikawa
31. Twenty Fragments of a Ravenous Youth - Xiaolu Guo

I think this means that officially, I've failed to meet the 50 book challenge for 2008. I'm certain that I've done so unofficially though, since I didn't get down the books that I read Jan - April.
Keeping track of them has had me realise that the rate I've been going through books nowadays is really very alarming. How on earth do I end up with 5 books to list each time? It's definitely because of my commute though...  Or it might be just me losing track of the days, what with the way that they've been flying past me lately.

So much for having this list as an easily accessible place to update immediately after finishing a book..

23. The picture of Dorian Gray
24. Female chauvinist pigs
25. Certain Girls - Jennifer Weiner
26. The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox

20 October 2008 @ 01:12 am
20. Lush Life - Richard Price
21. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

currently reading
22. Through the Looking Glass.

I realised, in conversation with someone, that I couldn't recall much about Lewis Carroll's wonderland, though I knew I'd read the books before.
Or so I thought. Through the Looking Glass isn't feeling at all familiar, and now I wonder if I ever read it. Perhaps I'd heard of the characters from TtLG from other sources...(cartoons? comics? other stories?)

Also, is there anything quite so annoying as knowing that you can't find out the title of a book you're thinking of? When you're completely forgotten the title and the author, and there's really no way for you to track it back down again.
Today it's an art book, I can remember vividly her work in the.....
................
scratch that.
There's nothing quite as satisfying as thinking you would never, in a million years, ever figure out the art book you're thinking of, until you start flipping through the mental pages of the book to remember the pages with band posters in them, and a quick google lets you find that it's Tara McPherson's Lonely Heart you were thinking of all this while!

27 September 2008 @ 06:27 pm
19. Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim.

Current Music: Foals - Electric Bloom

23 September 2008 @ 03:39 pm
At work, thinking about documentation & reproducible results, then
remembered reading this back in....June? but it didn't get written down.

18. Intuition - Allegra Goodman

So I think it was at the end of last year that I unofficially took on the 50 book challenge, but I've been horrible in keeping my count, and I'd *completely* forgotten all about it until I stumbled back across it in June.
I've never been one for keeping a list of what I've read, and my attempts to so far have been...patchy at best - I'm always finishing a book on the bus and forgetting to write it down when I get back home etc etc.. Maybe I'll fare better if I'm able to access this list wherever I have the internets.
